GREEN SAND

To achieve oxidation and filteration in one-step, Greensand is the best option. The brackish water containing divalent Fe/Mn ions, H2S, Ammonium, Arsenic etc, can be easily treated with greensand to overcome the problem. This granular medium consists a high proportion of a green mineral called glauconite (naturally occurring iron-potassium silicate). The surface/groundwater containing Fe/Mn ions is not potable and it must be treated. Various industries suffer with the same problem indeed. It has the consistency of sand and ability to absorb 10 times more moisture. The soluble Fe/Mn ions gets oxidised and is precipitated as an insoluble complex in contact with their higher oxides on these granules, H2S is reduced by oxidation to insoluble sulfur precipitate.


If the oxidation capacity of the sand is lost, the continued operating bed will reduce the service life and may cause stains. The exhausted oxidation capacity can be regained by KMnO4 (thorough washing of KMnO4 after regeneration becomes necessary to avoid the damage of membranes).
